A Message from Our Academic Affiliate

I am honored to lead the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Health at Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine FIU at this time of change and growth. Our department is extremely eager to support these training programs. Trainees will gain experience in a unique community-based program. This program allows trainees to obtain broad in-depth training and exposure to a full range of mental health conditions in people of all ages.

It is also a time of formidable challenges as our nation and city move from a pandemic to an unprecedented mental health crisis, especially among youth and people from all ethnic and racial groups. As we grow, we continue the partnership between the FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine and Citrus Health Network which allows trainees to gain the best experience from these programs.

Mental health services have never been needed more. Citrus’s training programs prepare a growing number of professionals each year, including FIU HWCOM medical students, psychiatry residents and fellows, nurses, psychologists, and social workers, who are in great demand and will make meaningful contributions to the fields of mental health. You will be trained by faculty who are industry experts and promote a holistic approach with evidence-based practice in psychiatry.

I am excited about the future of mental health and the field of psychiatry and remain committed to the trainees as they learn. We will continue to coach and mentor until full transition to the outside world of psychiatry.

Patricia Junquera, MD, FAPA Interim Chair, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Vice Chair of Clinical, and Director of Multidisciplinary Education Associate Professor
